Quick Guide

How to Play

Every day at midnight UTC, a new historical figure is hidden. Your goal is simple: identify who they are in as few clues as possible.

The Five Clues

01

Birth Year

A date to anchor the century and historical era (e.g. 1769 or c. 551 BCE).

02

Birthplace

A lone marker on an unlabelled world map. No country borders or names, just geography.

03

Life Map

A second marker shows where they died. The distance between the two pins traces their journey.

04

Primary Role

Their main mark on history (e.g. Philosopher, General, Scientist, Monarch).

05

Archival Portrait

An authentic period painting, photograph, sculpture, or engraving without names or captions.

How Gameplay Works

  • One Guess Per Clue: You get exactly one shot at each clue stage. Make it count.
  • Verified Search: Pick names from the suggestion dropdown. Unrecognized text will not waste your guess.
  • Wrong Guesses Advance: If your guess is incorrect, the next clue immediately unlocks.
  • Skip Anytime: Not sure? Click “Next Clue” to reveal more information without guessing.
  • Stage 5 is Final: The portrait is your last chance. A wrong guess on stage 5 ends the round and reveals the dossier.

Scoring & Streaks

1/5 – 5/5Solved. The fewer clues you needed, the higher your score.
X/5Out of clues. The full biography and dossier are revealed.

A fresh figure drops daily at 00:00 UTC. Past puzzles in the archive can be played anytime without risking your daily streak.
